I still put salt in. It's only a couple a quid.

It will depend on the hardness of your water.

I live in a hard water area and am recommended to add salt.

I live in a soft water area and have never added salt - never any problems.

I have got a water softener that supplies soft water to the dishwasher but my dishwasher instructions say to still keep the salt reservoir full because otherwise the dishwasher might be damaged and it would invalidate my guarantee. It needs refilling less than once a year ansd I use the dishwasher daily so i figure what can be the harm in putting the salt in?

I don't use/ have a dishwasher so forgive my ignorance. Is it regular cooking salt you would use in the dishwasher?

Society, no, but I think I read that you could use normal salt.

Like woof my dishwasher repairman said to always use salt regardless. It's to protect the machine.

what;s your kettle like? does soap make scummy water when you wash and bath?
