Parking In A Legitimate Parking Bay... Question

I parked my car in a 45 minute parking bay on the side of a high street and then drove away for about an hour. When I returned, I parked my car on the opposirte side of the road in a 45 minute bay wherupon a parking warden approached me to question me re parking there. He remembered that I had been on the other side of the road earlier. On checking his notes he saw that it was more than 45 minutes since I returned. However, I argued with him that it was perfectly legal to move from the original space to the other side of the road anyway, as long as I did not return to the same bay. He said that was not the case. Who is right and has the law changed? If it has how were we supposed to be informed.? I was always inder the impression that as long as you did not return to the same section marked off by white lines at each end, it was ok to park elsewhere in the same road. I even though it could be another bay on the same side but never tried that. Certainly I was as sure as sure that you could go to the opposite side immediately without a period of time inbetween.

In our road, the traffic warden is quite clear - it's the road, not the space in it, you can't return to.

The return limit refers to the parking place (the road) and the bays are part of that place. Laws and Regulations change all the time but ignorance is not a defence.

I agree with the above posters - it is the road that counts, not the actual parking bay

In Edinburgh they say its the road you can't return to. I have been booked for parking in a different space but on the same road. I appealed it as i wasnt aware of that rule either and somehow got away with it, but they did explain it was the road rather than the actual space.

I've never understood: "No returns within the hour." What does this mean?

chrissa its done primarily to stop two or three people parking there all day and running out to shuffle their cars so they can stay there all day.

i parked in a space to 'quickly' go into a shop for some cigarettes, i then noticed the sign stated 'maximum 4 hours'....... no return within 2 hours....... i ended up having to watch a film at the cinema in order to comply
