Through reasons of her own - my sister only has incoming calls on her land phone and that is it. She makes all of her other calls on the mobile then turns off mobile.

However, she being is tortured pretty much 12 hours a day with phone calls from a mentally-challenged woman and this woman texts about 20 texts a day.

Nobody can get through to her (my sister) she won't pick up in case it is this girl. So lets the phone ring and does 1471 finds out and rings the latest caller up.

I have told her to get her number unblocked both on mobile and landline - no, sister doesn't want to that cos she fond of the woman's parents.

Can she get a caller display phone and remain paying what she does now - I know do you pay a few pence a month re Call Display. What exactly would happen anybody know TIA

Assuming the woman in question uses the same landline/mobile phones to call your sister then if your sister has a phone with a digital display and a list of contacts then this woman will show up when she calls (if your sister has the woman saved in her contacts list).

To get true caller ID that shows (pretty much) all numbers then she will have to pay and the cost will depend on her phone line provider.
Caller display is,in fact, included in many telephone packages today.
I've not paid extra for it for about 10 years.
In order for caller display to work, you have to allow your own phone number to be displayed. I would be talking, nicely, to the woman's parents because allowing her to behave in this way may not be doing her any good.
If your sister is with BT caller display is free. I don't think it is free with all other companies. Does she know the number of this other woman?
Not true Woofie - I have caller display (free from talktalk) and my own number is always withheld unless I choose to release it for specific calls.

Just beat me to it s-d, was about to say same.
If the sister is doing 1471 to find out who has called and presuming the caller in question doesn't withhold her number then saving the number in the contacts on the sisters phone will work as a short cut caller ID....will it not?

I'm basing this on the fact that if I have a number saved in my home and mobile phone the caller is displayed, without me subscribing to the Caller ID service provided by my phone company.
Not entirely relevant but.......what does the title of this thread mean?
Same as Sunny Dave, i'm with Sky though. Number withheld from my end but subscribe to caller display (free).

Your postings have made some sense - she is with BT as I am myself but used to remember paying about £4.00 every quarter for the caller display feature - that was no problem. But remember then I received incoming calls and also used same phone to ring out. It would not be the money etc - it would be the hassle cos she likes this set up ie "incoming" calls only - and she pays for it manually.

So say I bought her a caller display phone plugged it in - are you saying the caller display will work right away or would BT need to know and will they allow her that feature even though she has "incoming calls" only. That would be the problem.

I have contacted BT myself online but couldn't get straightforward answers. Thanks guys. Re the mentally-challenged woman - she is 39 and the texts that she sends to my sister about her mother and father (whom I know - the loveliest people) are mind-blowing -since she is a great speller so can fairly text very expletive words, says her mother gives no money, says shes that woman and that man(her dad) If this mother only knew what her daughter was saying she would be so hurt.

I did say to my sister to say to the mother but she said she couldn't hurt her.

This has been going on for about 3 years now - me - personally I would be worn out with it and I can see she is getting frazzled with it too.

When her and I were having dinners - her mobile went off with 5 texts one after the other. All from your woman. Her mobile was on as she was showing some of the texts she had sent previously. Then it went ping, text, ping, text ping text.

Saying what I have it is very frustrating for members of my family to get through to my sister as she won't pick it up - so we have to wait while she gives it a minute or two and then rings back and on and on it goes and so have I gone on a bit. Sorry for the saga
Why doesn't she just ask to change her number on her house phone and get a new sim card, they are very cheap, free in most cases.
Or she could just block the number on her phone. X
If I've got this right, the fact that she is ringing 1471 lots of times a day will far outweigh the cost of Caller Display.

Tell her to get C.D. so she can just speak to her family.
Must admit......I don't understand the thread title either. X

Thanks Sparks and Chrissa - To Eccles - re the the Title I used - must had a bit of Tourettes there - probably was muttering to myself (again)
Do BT offer an incoming calls only package?

I've only ever heard of that when people are in arrears with their bill.

Are you 100% sure you are fully familiar with your sisters phone package?
Made sense to me. Could have read 'this may seem old fashioned'
just wanted to say thanks to sunny dave. I just checked again with BT and they have removed the requirement for users to display their own number...so i now have caller ID at no extra charge. I wouldn't have thought to check again if it hadn't been for this thread :-)

It is free with BT but you have to make 2 chargeable calls a month or its costs £2 a month or £6 a quarter.
I am betting her parents know already.....

That makes sense Zacs.

Not that I have Caller ID ;-)
Why can't she just tell this woman where to go? Why is she putting up with (what seems like) harrassment?
