If you have a contract phone and don't pay the bill can the bar the phone even if it has a pay and go sim in on another network?

Phones can be taken off the network, but won't be for an unpaid bill, since the bill is with the SIM/account not the handset. The handset will be blocked if reported stolen.

I think they probably would be cause you are taking the phone on contract not paying and then using another network with a cheaper pay as you go option. You now have a nice phone without having to honour the contract. I think they might block it.

I don't believe there's a chance of that happening. You think the network they moved to is going to block income because a rival is annoyed their handset has been unblocked by the user and used on their network ? It's there to stop handset theft.

The clue is in ''contract phone''. ... you have a contract phone which you have obtained by agreeing to pay a fixed amount each month for a given period. The contract will I expect give you so many minutes, texts and data.
The supplier gives you the phone on the agreement that you pay the agreed amount monthly for a period of months ...usually 12 or 24.
If you want to end the contract and keep the phone you just ask the supplier how much it will cost to terminate the contract early.
If you decide to have the phone unlocked yourself, you may find that it can't be done by an unlocking service as the phone is blocked, and will be until the end of the contract.
If you do manage to unlock the phone and install a PAYG sim card, you will still be liable to complete the monthly payments until the end of the contracted period.

If you choose not to pay others will advise you better than I can, but it goes something like blacklisting, bad credit rating and debt collection people knocking at the door.
