Sky Vs Talktalk

This is an extension in part, to the question posed by Tamaris earlier today. I have been a longtime customer of Sky and therefore have their 'older' Sky+ box. I have asked for upgrades but they won't play ball, insisting that I add £10 per month and take HD. I am not interested in HD and feel it may be time to call it a day with them. My account is for unlimited Broadband, free calls and TV, and amounts to approx £55 per month. A TalkTalk offer has crossed my letterbox where I can get a free Freeview+ box (actually a YouView box) broadband and all calls for £23 for the first 6 months, rising to £31 after that. There is little on Sky TV that I watch which is not available on Freeview anyway, and to pay almost £25 a month for TV seems daft when I could get it from Freeview. The bonus is the record box. That's the background, my questions are what do we think of a) the deal and b) TalkTalk in general please?

You can use your Skybox as a Freeview box (this is what I do). It actually receives more channels than Freeview too.

That Talktalk deal doesn't seem too good to me as it amounts to £1 per day.
BT have some very good broadband deals for new customers. We rejoined them a couple years back and pay £15 per month for unlimited broadband.

My current account with Sky is TV £24 per month, Broadband £7.50, Phone rental £14.50 (incl free offpeak calls), Talk Anytime £5.00, making a total of £51 per month + any calls. The TalkTalk offer is for TV, unlimited broadband and Free anytime landline calls for £7.75 + line rental of £15.40 (£23.15) for the first 6 months, rising to £15.50 rental (£30.90) thereafter. £1 per day for phone, TV and Broadband doesn't (on the face of it) seem too bad a deal to me, compared to £1.70 for the Sky equivalent (with an uptodate box provided). That's really why I asked the question - what are TalkTalk like as an ISP and phone provider?

I had talktalk for a while and they were a nightmare. There call centre is in india..I moved to bt but find them expensive even though not unlimited..so switched to sky.

i'm with talk talk and wanted to upgrade to the youview box but the broardband cable here in this village is not powerful enough or something and so i couldn;t, best check that issue out first.

You should be able to upgrade your Sky box on the Sky web site.

I have upgraded my Sky package (including my Sky box) a number of times just by going to the sky web site.

You may be able to do this without having to take the HD option.

You will need to register at the Sky web site before you can do the upgrade.

I don't think 'Talk Talk' is a good service provider. My neighbour was with TT and, whenever anything went wrong with the service, it was always blamed upon BT's landlines as being at fault; whereas BT would say that it was an issue for TT to resolve.

Personally, I would never wish to be with anyone except BT as my ISP because all land line Broadband connections are reliant upon the Telephone Exchanges which are controlled by BT.

I feel sure that BT can match any deal offered by another Broadband Providers. It's a matter of asking BT what's available in relation to what one knows is being offered by other ISPs.

Ditch Sky TV. Use Freeview. Buy one of these:

Then look around for a good phone & broadband deal, e.g. from Tesco at £16.90 per month, including line rental and with free evening and weekend calls:

Unless you make a lot of daytime calls you'll initially save about £34 per month, meaning that you'll have paid for the YouView recorder in under 6 months and you'll then be hundreds of pounds per year better off.

See - that's what I hate (lol!!!) about you Bc. Every time I ask a question here and make up my mind, YOU always come up with a brilliant reason why I should do something different! Do not, whatever you do, go with Talk Talk. Absolutely useless. I can hardly ever pick up a signal, despite them sending engineers round on more than one occasion to test the equipment.

sorry guys but my talk talk is brilliant and never really any problems at all and you all know that if there was i would give them broccoli like a rocket up their arse but they are fine
