my niece and her hubby have ordered a new 3 seater and a 2.5 seater couch they are now in dispute as to if it will fit through the doors in the house, if they know the depth and height of them how will they be able to work out (if they also measure door width) if they will get in ok, I suggested that the delivery men would probably turn them on an angle to get them in but this hasn't seemed to stop the dispute, help put an end to it please
When at the old house, it came through the front but we had to remove the door and part of the frame to get in the living room. When we moved we could not come in the front and had the go round the back, take the sliding door off the conservatory (which we couldn't put back). Even then we could not get in the living room and it stayed in the conservatory.
We are in this situation ourselves! Our suite is being re-covered at the moment, they had the dickens of a job to get the huge three seater out to the van, we had to dismantle the bannisters up the stairs in the hall to get the angle right for them to manoeuvre it. They told us some customers have to take a window out ........... :(
Similar problem getting a large 4 seater settee into a terraced house, with a sharp 90 degree turn from hall into lounge Luckily the window to the lounge was double glazed. 5 minutes to remove the double glazed unit and it went straight in. I'm sure the suppliers meet with this problem regularly so ask their advice.
When I got a sofa into my place the guys were about to give up, told me the wall shelf was stopping it, at which point I showed how it could be removed in seconds by hand, and they managed to get the sofa in. I think it's one of those seemingly, simple on the face of it, type issues that has so many variables that the old "suck it and see" tactic proves best in the end.
Sometimes an apparently impossible piece of furniture can be fitted in by tilting to the diagonal, then revolving it round door frames with little adjustments to the tilt.
The wife and I were taken by a settee in a store two years ago. The salesman saw me measuring it and asked if we were interested. I said to the salesman we like it but you'll never get it through our front door, which is only a 30" door. and then there's another 33" door in about 4 feet. He said our delivery men can get anything in anywhere. No doubt he was already counting his commission. I asked if they couldn't get it through the door could I have a full refund. He checked with the manager who agreed I could. It was also written on the receipt.
When the settee was delivered 6 weeks later needless to say It wouldn't go through the door and they had to take it back. The salesman rang saying the settee could be dismantled to go through the door but there would be a charge of £50.00. I said, no thanks, I've already paid £1,300 I'm not paying any more, I'll have the agreed full refund. He rang back shortly afterwards saying his manager had agreed they would deliver it again and there would be no charge.
I was out when it was delivered but the wife said the upholsterer removed the back and it went in a treat and he refitted the back. We love it.
