Just a perky Q.. when mum popped her clogs we (the daughters/in-law) each got a ring. My sister had hers cleaned and asked for a valuation, which they did for nothing. Can I take My ring purely for a valuation to a jewlery shop, or do I have to engage in other services (ie, cleaning) to get it valued...?
My daughter told me that Ernest Jones Jewellers had free valuation days every so often, she had taken her ring to have it done. Not sure if they still do, but worth asking if you have a branch near you.
Take it to a small jeweller's shop and ask them, most will happily oblige without you using any of their other services. It all comes down to how you ask. (my other half worked in jewellers for many years).
I had several items valued for insurance, all together, it cost me about forty quid to have a written valuation with a photo and a detailed description of each item.
I took my solitaire ring in to be altered which cost me £30. It would have cost me £50 for the valuation (with proper certificate) from Goldsmiths Jewellers.
