Do they just have their back doors open to take pictures, and do they take on a camera or on film? Also what leaway do they give you and do they take a picture right away?

The recommended allowance is 10% + 2 m.p.h. and most UK police forces claim to follow this.  I have heard many stories of people being caught at 31 m.p.h. etc., but have never met the actual person concerned.

A fixed GATSO camera recently caught a motorist speeding...in a mobile speed camera unit. Made me smile a bit.

Mobile cameras (in a van) usually just shoot through the back door/panel. Apart from speeding offences, as they are manned by a human, they can decide to take photos of other offences. eg dangerous loading, dangerous overtaking etc. They can also spin the camera round, so if they hear a car accelerate as it passes, they can spin the camera and get you through their front windscreen; sneaky gits!!

Not picking bones...but 1 suggests +4 and another +3 mph.....it's actually 10% and 3mph.

 

The reason isn't that the Cops are being nice, it's to allow for unconfigured speedo's.....Police cars speedo's are configured therefore can follow you, and their speed can be given as evidence in a law court.

 

(and yes the Police don't need photographic proof)
