Seems your DVD Recorder has an Analogue tuner, which means you cannot record digital programmes.
Time to treat yourself to a new Digital recorder, have a look on Curry's website.....plenty of choice

If your DVD recorder can record from an external source eg, through a SCART socket, then you can buy a freeview tuner and connect it to that.
The only drawback is that setting up a recording is tedious - you have to program the freeview box to switch to the appropriate channel at the right time and then program your DVD recorder to record from the freeview box at that time.
