Boiler Problems

Called out the maintenance company as the gas boiler had switched itself off and we couldn't get it working again. Surprisingly, it worked the following morning. Engineer thought it had overheated and bled some of the radiators and I did the rest. All the rooms are a lot warmer now but the
hot water overflow now overflows every day and is driving us potty with the constatnt drip, drip, ... ,drip.
Any suggestions how we can overcome this problem would be appreciated.

I assume you have a gravity system Vinginge. i.e. one with a conventional boiler (not a combi), with a tank in the roof. If the roof tank is overflowing, that has no connection with the boiler in this case. The floatvalve that allows water into the tank from the mains is not shutting off properly. If the roof tank is overflowing, that has no connection with the boiler in this case. The floatvalve that allows water into the tank from the mains is not shutting off properly.
Only a few pounds to buy another, and it only takes a few minutes to fit.

Many thanks The Builder. When I drained the overflow tank completely it was just as you said. Went to the local B&Q, bought two sets of float valve repair kits and thought whilst I'm sorting out this problem I may as well replace the float valve operating the ballcock in the main tank. Apologies for delay in awarding Best Answer.
