Double Knit Instead Of Four Ply

Can I substitute DK foe four ply?
I presume it would fit a three month old instead of a newborn
Would I be right?

I'd hate to advise without seeing the wool and pattern....x

I don't think that would work there is quite a difference between double knit and 4ply. When it comes to taking in at the sleeves if they are raglon it won't look right . And would be wide round the neck . I would suggest the right wool especially if it is a baby pattern .

I am just returning to knitting after approx 20 years so I guess I need to get exactly the right wool and follow the patterns to the smallest detail
