Has anyone here had experience of being referred 2 a dermatologist for a skin problem ie. acne?

I've been referred recently & have my 1st appontment coming up. But would like 2 know what to expect. Will I be given treatment straight away? and if I do, is the treatment free?

Both my son and daughter have been to a dermatologist, and my friend years ago. If NHS it's free, they got prescriptions on the day, I remember my friend starting heatlamp treatment the week after.

Ooh, thats good. The same day? and then more treatment the week after? I hope they do that 4 me (",) Was the referral 4 acne? thanx 4 ur reply. Im excited now
My friends was for acne, it really worked as well, but my son was ecema & daughter keratosis pilaris (dry pimply skin) hope it works for you.
I went private about 8 years ago for an acne problem, best thing I ever did considering it had seriously battered my self confidence. I seem to remember doing various tests first and then receiving the prescription afterwards and then I had repeat appointments to monitor progress. Don't expect results overnight as it will take time for the drugs to work but for me, within about 8 weeks, I was spotless. Don't worry about it, as my doctor said at the time, in this day and age, nobody need suffer acne.

Thanx Pootle! I dont mind waitin 2 see results, I'll just be happy that Im finally getting somewhere after dealing with this 4 how many years (",) But 8wks and u were spotless? Thats some quick results, I'd be well happy with that. What kind of treatment did u have? Was it all just oral or topical medication? Or did u have some other treatments as well? i.e. Light therapy, microdermabrasion...

Well, I was lucky really in that although I got bad spots, I didn't have the nasty scars or the really deep acne so I was prescribed pills only and as a result, made a full recovery pretty quickley. I think the drug I took was something called Roaccatine which was quite a heavy at the time and had a few side effects to be aware of. Again, I was lucky and this worked straightaway for me though I understand it may take a little time to find the correct drug for you. I remember during that whole period, the very first thing I would do when I woke up in the morning was to look in the mirror to see how many more of the little ******** had appeared overnight. I tell you though, it was the best feeling in the world when those little pills started to work over the weeks, my confidence and self respect soared! I sincerely wish you the very best

Aw, thank u. Ive heard about Roaccatine. I like the fact that it can often stop acne 4 life! but Im a bit scared if I get offered that tho. Heard the side effects can be really bad. Luckily I havent got them deep scars either. just surface blemishes really, but still annoying... Oh well! only couple days til my appointment so I'll soon find out whats in store 4 me. Thanx again
ive been on roaccutane for a week exactly today because i went to see a dermatologist because im 14 atm.. and i know its normal to have teenage spots but ive had ache on my face for a long time and also it spreaded on my shoulders on my back so i was unable to wear normal tops and this is very hard seeing as it is summer and from just a week my spots have gone down and not red as before and they are much more easier to cover up now on face then before so it defoo has benifits but i was also warned about the side affects and so far the side effect im getting now is the dry lips.. i was told to apply lipsil on every hour but i put it on wen ever i cud and that has prevented them drying up but they do sting a little but it really gnaa b worth it. and i was also given treatment on the very same day coz i was so determined to have ache stoped for good cos its made my self confidence gone down and it made me feel different becoz non of my mates had it and i cudnt wear any nice clothes off the shoulders or wear swim suits so i havnt gone swiming in years ive had it and ive been on medicaion for a year wid pills and cream from my normal doctor and that wasnt working at all so thats why we booked into the dermatologist and i trust u its defoo worth it and u wnt regret it :D
Acne treatment is never free. I used herbal acne and pimple cream to treat my acne, it helped me. http://www.internatio...e-n-pimple-cream.html
