Is it possible to find whether or not my HDMi leads are too long?
Reception between HD box & TV is fine under normal conditions but if I connect a HDMi switch between the two there is no reception at all.
Problem is 1 HDMi socket on TV. Sky box i HDMi lead, Blu Ray box 1 HDMi lead
so 2 leads to HDMi switch 1 lead to TV ( 3 HDMi leads all being 1.5 mtrs in length. HDMi switch tested, no probs with Blu Ray but repeat NO signal getting through from Sky box. Am quite happy to buy less lengthy leads but don't want to spend money needlessly if there is another solution, asking Sky engineers gains nothing.

Sky boxes are notorious for not providing enough voltage/signal along the HDMI lead to power a switch. They only 'just' push out enough to meet the HDMI standard, whereas most other bits of kit exceed the standard and can power a switch. The cable length is not an issue.

It is possible that a 'powered' switch (ie with a mains supply of its own) might work - but make sure you buy it from somewhere that takes returns, in case it doesn't.

Cheers sunny-dave I have considered buying a powered switch but don't want to keep throwing money at the problem, so your plan to get it from a provider who will take returns is a good idea if I can find such a vendor.

Amazon might be OK, WR - they are pretty good on returns for stuff that doesn't perform as it should.

Just make sure you are buying directly from them, not from a "third party marketplace seller".
