Weighing luggage?

I have been looking at some travel review sites and have noticed a few people referring to 'luggage scales', apparently these can be bought relatively cheaply. How on earth do they work? I have tried to weigh my luggage on ordinary scales and the suitcase overhangs and touches the floor, which defeats the object. Any ideas before I go searching for them?

before leaving your own house, weigh yourself, note the weight then go on your scales carrying the case and take away the first weight from the second.

More difficult coming home as you wont have access to scales

Thanks to both responses. answer 1 - what a good idea I hadnt even considered that. answer 2 ive just had a look at a few of these and I think youre right. There's a few on e bay, which I might have a bid on. I am usually ok when i go on holiday, but i am one of those who would like to pack more but always err on the side of caution, and my case is usually under the limit. so thanks again. Suo

I had the same problem, 10 is spot on, I bought one and would reccomend it, a shop that specialise in fishing stuff will do you one, also, you can take it with you and weigh your luggage before you come back.

try using those scales that are in shops and stuff, i know there's one in a woolworths in stoke-on-trent, and basingstoke train station, so i'm sure they have them all over the world.  put 20p in - will be different elsewhere - and stand on it.  great big huge thing.  what i plan on using when i go to new york later this year.

Hi Suo, you can get various types, the one I got measures in metric and imperial, it was about �30-00, but worth it, in the end, you get what you pay for, I couldn't have been more pleasd. Good luck.

Sorry, missed the last bit, the one I have is approx 10 inches long, flat, and very light, so yes, it is also very portable.

You could always put a small box or stool on the scales, reset your scales to zero and then put your cases on top of the stool, That's what I usually do, saves doing sums and trying to hang or hold the luggage scales... and you can do it at home...

I usually weigh myself, then weigh myself holding the case and take the total from my wifes weight. If she catches me I'm for it.
