Esa And Council Tax
I have been in receipt of ESA, (work related activity group). I have received a letter today informing me that I've now been moved to ESA support group.
Since the government benefit reforms I have been paying bedroom tax and a percentage of council tax (12 pound b'room tax and 5 pound council tax).
Ive been told today, (by someone in the ESA support group) that those in the support group are exempt from council tax. (doesnt have to pay it himself)
A quick google of the question leaves me perplexed. I dont understand the intricacies of the system. Do I still have to pay a percentage of council tax?
Can anyone give me a definitave answer without links to DWP sites? (a copy and paste would be fine, lol)
Just need to get this sorted. I have had to jump through hoops in the last couple of years just to keep afloat with the system.
Many thanks for any replies guys.

My council certainly do not give exemptions to people in your situation unless you are severely mentally impaired.
My council give reduced council tax in certain circumstances - you need an extra bedroom for specialist equipment necessary for your health, for example.
Definitely no reduction or exemption for being in the support group section of ESA.
As already mentioned, your council may be different. Have a look at their website and phone them on Monday.
