Finding Someone
18 Answers
Hello
How would someone go about finding somebody they used to know with only a name and area that they once lived in?
I have goolged, facebooked etc... The surname is quite unusual so I would have thought it would have been easier to find them to be honest.
I do have an old phone number which I have called to day and it is now a business which is not linked.
Thanks
GF

I traced him to an address but there was no telephone number so I phoned one of his neighbours, explained who I was for security purposes and his neighbour passed on my details. We've been in touch ever since.
It's often a source of amusement which I rib him about because he is a Detective Sergeant and once tried tracing me via the PNC but gave up when a search returned more than 100 people with my name in Wales!

Unfortunately I only have a name and I can find no one with the same surname on FB etc. 192 only threw up one person in the entire county and it's not him.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I have found an online notice board for that area so have posted a message there to try and find him that way.

Hi Greedfly, I used this chap to look for someone with a very common surname a few years ago, he found him.
It does cost, £50 to look and another £100 if successful.

If the area he moved from is a small community, eg a village, it might be worth ringing the local post office, if there is one.
The chap might have had his mail redirected when he moved, and the postmaster/mistress might know of him, or have a record of the redirection.
I don't know that they would be allowed/willing to reveal the new address to you, but they might be willing to forward a letter on to him.
It also might be worth ringing the local pubs - someone might know of him.
You could also consider putting an advert in the local newspaper, asking if anyone knows of his whereabouts. That's bound to create some interest....especially from distant relatives who think they might be in for a bit of a windfall. :o)
