I have fresh clues from the quizmaster:

Novelist and scientist go off together on a journey perhaps an expedition?. Both publish a book afterwards, the scientist's being scientific, the novelist's being more of a journal.

This is the original book title, written by a novelist but this not a novel.
Exactly 10 years later he re-published the book under its shorter and more popular title.
