bought a printer today from pc world - told two members of staff I am a techno phobe and would they please be certain to give me correct instructions. Both assured me I needed a USB cable to enable the printer to connect to my computer so I bought one - and extra £10 over and above the purchase price. When I opened the box at home there is one included in the package and now they are saying that to get a refund I have to drive back to the store to do this. It's a hell of a long way, almost and hour each way - doesn't seem right to me.

In your shoes I'd decide a spare is always handy. Blow the drive back.
Is it printer specific or does it have common connections ?
£10 is a loony price for a USB cable too - avaricious ***.

Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation
send an e-mail to their customer relations team. They may sympathise with you and offer you a voucher to use next time, at least to cover the fuel.
AC is correct, I think. You're more likely to get a voucher than cash or cheque. You could always spend it on some ink cartridges, for example.
Pc world e-mail address is: [email protected]

It's the principle of the thing OG - I don't need one and why should they have £10 of my money unnecessarily?
What should the cost be then sunny-dave?

thank you AC - I'm waiting for a customer services manager to call me back.
Good idea book binder thank you

sorry should have said: cold comfort but PC world is the last place in the world to buy anything!

It's nothing to do with your lack of knowledge about the printer. The same thing could happen to anyone.

Have a look at your receipt. Does it have the name of the salesperson on it?

If so, contact the store, ask to speak to the manager, and tell him/her the whole story.

Tell them that you are not prepared to return to the store because it will cost £X.XX. Suggest that possible actions will be to send the part back through the post (and you should add the cost of postage and packaging) for a refund by cheque or directly to your bank account. Ensure the part is sent back recorded delivery by the way, or they might say they didn't receive it.

If they are reluctant to do that, tell them that you are happy for them to come up with an alternative solution, and get them to agree a time to DSL, you back.

If this doesn't work (or they don't call you back), call them back and ask for the telephone number of customer services, and for the manager's full name and the name of the sales person.

Don't tell them what you're going to do. Just ask for the information.
Been there and worn that T-Shirt. Call the store and tell them how upset you are. Then after really sticking it to them in a polite manner, ask them for compensation. Tell they your son likes the look of something in the store (worth let's say £20 - £30 and that you want £20 worth of vouchers towards the inconvenience. Also say "Well if I can't trust PC World, who can I trust?". Lay it on thick. I've had £50 of vouchers for a mess up they made with my wife.
Then sell the cable and the vouchers on Gumtree for twice the price you paid for the cable.
how else do you expect to get a refund if you're not prepared to go back to the store to get it?

Dive buddy and sunny-dave - will bear in mind to come on here before buying anything in future- thanks
Tora Tora - didn't know that but am older and wiser now. Thank you
sp1814 that 's about where we are now - have spoken with two customer care operators and refused to be fobbed off with return it to the store for a refund - am waiting for 'a manager' to call me but am not holding my breath. Looks as though it will go to round two as I'm not about to let them get away with such shoddy customer services.
Suggest you email the CEO of Curry's/PCWorld, have your (polite) rant, explain that it will cost you in time and money to return said lead and ask for redress for having been mis-sold. They'll probably send you an email voucher.
I very much doubt a manager will contact you at this stage. Just keep ranting to an assistant until you exhaust them into giving you what you want!
look on the brightside - at least you don't have to go back because you don't have ANY wire

dizmo I'm not looking to make a profit out of it but I don't see why I should waste a morning driving over to their store to rectify a mistake they made. It's not a lot of money but it's my money so I expect £10's worth of vouchers to be offered. It's quite obvious you know how they operate - glad you had a satisfactory result.
Boo, see above.
