Ok so you weigh your self and for sake of argument sake you are 11. 7 pounds .So as an experiment on behalf of the good people of Answerback I have weighed myself then weighed myself holding a 2 pound bag of sugar and sure enough the scales registered it although my hands were by my side and out side the width of the scales .How did that happen ?

The scales don't have a width.
All downward pressure has to be through your feet which are on the scale. Why wouldn't it measure it ?
If you can balance the sugar on your head it'll show as slightly less cos it's further away from the scales so less gravity.
Why did you carry out this complicated, scientific experiment?
But I suspect the Ed will be along in a moment to explain it all .-)
standing on one leg won't make you lighter either
But you could get 2 scales and stand a leg on each !
That's how I weigh my dog; first me, then me + dog, then combined weight - my weight. What are you getting at?
What was your hypothesis?
you'd have to weigh yourself with a hypothesis and without in order to check.
This has encouraged me to weigh one's elf too. I put my elf on the scales and he weighed hardly anything ! But then I put him on holding a flower in order to weigh the flower; and to my surprise it weighed less !!!!! But he tells me it was elf raising flower.

I'd like to repeat the experiment but the ogre broke the scales when we tried him. He did apologise, at least I think that was an apology, but that's the end of the experiment :-(
Lol OG....that made me giggle :-)
I would suggest that you try the scales of justice although their application is very specific.
Just ice.
I once ate a pound of fudge while standing on the scale and still weighed the same for first bite to last.
A pound of fudge? You must have been whizzing after that, mib!
Then I actually lost weight . . . go figure.
No, can't figure that one. :-)

The point I was making .When we weigh our selves we are standing on the scales ,so we apply downward pressure .which is then converted in to weigh. I am okay with that but my arm were not grounded so could not have applied pressure. In my opinion the were not in the weight given. For my arms and the sugars to be included those weights would have had to go back up into my body to be included in the downward pressure.
I'm lost now. I think you just have very heavy feet.
By that argument then your arms weigh nothing ever, even without the sugar. If you add them on you are probably more likely 12st 3..
