So I'm trying to get fit and I was wondering if its more beneficial for me to cycle or walk into work every day. I work about 5 miles from my home and I've been cycling for the last couple of weeks but I was thinking walking might be a better form of exercise.

I would say with the distance you are from work I would stick with cycling. Although walking is good, 5 miles each way, every day could be a bit too much. 5 miles each way is an ideal distance to cycle in my opinion.
But in this weather, you're more likely to turn up for work all sweaty if you cycle.
Cycling: (slightly) sweaty maybe, but not sodded up from having sat in traffic jams. You don't have to pedal like hell, just take it easy. The freedom calms your whole self down.

Deore: good cycling name !

If you're really looking for a workout, though, walk.  You'll be exerting yourself for longer, hence your heart and lungs get a better workout.
