Oh yes, the weather. In one of the tabloids this week, it said that the current cold spell was being caused by the jet stream moving south and pushing the Gulf Stream further south too. Now I'm definitely no expert on this but I didn't know that the Gulf Stream crossed the Atlantic at a height of 30,000 feet. ??????

yeah, sub tropopause all our weather exists below the tropopause. It doesn't alter the gulfstream, that's a nonsense though it can be affected by cooling water temperatures but in this case it's not, just normal seasonal cooling.

Yes the jet is swooping south mid atlantic but that's what its supposed to do at this time of year as the Azores High sink south the polar airmasses sink also.... this is what winter is supposed to be like.... just our illustrious journalists and hack "Experts" like that clown Corbyn and his cronies will always hype a story purely to suck the British people into a panic.... this cold is normal!!
Sorry I should have said the Trop ranges in height, the colder the region the lower the height the warmer the area the higher it is. At the equator it can stretch up to 60,000ft at the poles around 30,000. We work it all out using things like laspe rates ie the rate that the temperature falls with height as it rises...

It's my job my friend...i'm a meteorologist
We have a little cold snap and we seem to go to pieces, schools closed, (now there's a surprise) travel delays etc etc.

I am old enough to remember 1947, now that was cold and it lasted for days and days, can never remember any schools closing then, but we did have the German Prisoners of War to help in clearing a passage or two.

But I suppose in this day and age it would amount to 'slave labour', and should I have put Nazi Prisoners of War? Can't seem to keep up with the latest PC terms now days.

Just heard a breathless presenter announce that there may be snow on the N. Yorks. moors.... What does she think the 'snow-posts' lining the roads are for?

It's called 'Winter' and a bit of warning is welcome, but this twittering hysteria baffles me.
