Reclining Chair

My 97 year old mother has a reclining chair which she operates by a handset. This has now failed and checking the reason I have found the wires connected to the device have all frayed from constant use. I have contacted the manufacturers but they are not interested and our local electrician doesn't feel able to help. Has anybody any suggestions to help an old lady?

can you not purchase another hand set from manufacturer ? if they can't repair they may replace ? who is the manufacturer and what model etc is the chair ?
