Bank Sort Codes, As Banks Are Now Computerised, Do The Sort Code Still Refer To A Local Branch?
4 Answers
I have two accounts with Santander; both opened in different towns both accessible through the same Log in information on line. the last number on the sort code is different on both account. I Googled the sort codes, one says the account is in london, the other isnt recognised. One account was opened in Barnstaple, Devon, the other was in Newtown, in Wales.
Just curious!

I plugged mine in a minute ago and got the local branch where my acct is
Santander used to be Allied and Leicester and therefore had bank roll no and god knows what and may therefore be a special category ( I also have one of those )
The important thing to recognise is that after a case named summit like Tiger thingy v SOmeone else, the bank on a transfer is only obliged to look at the numbers and not at the letters of the name of the payee

I rang up my electricity supplier recently to change my Direct Debit details and as soon as I gave the sort code he said, oh that is Santander.
I got the impression from him that Santander have only one Sort Code (or maybe only a single sort code for new accounts and not ones they have taken over from Abbey, Alliance and Leicester etc?)
