By using a qualified electrician you know that they will use the right materials and that the circuit will not pose a threat to life or a fire hazard. Samll price to pay for peace of mind for you and your family (or other house inhabitants).
Personally, I think it is very easy. It is not voodoo, it is not diffcult.
Get yourself a good DIY book from the library (I recommend Collins). It explains it all in there in very easy step by step instructions. Make sure that you understand fully, what it is saying before you attempt anything and make sure that you have the electricity off before starting.
So long as you fully understand wat you are doing, it really is not difficult.
If you do not understand the book, please get in an electirican.
Since it is not outside, and not in a bathroom or kitchen you can legally carry out this work yourself.
