Wood Filler For Chipboard.

My chipboard loft hatch which opens down the way came crashing down the other night. After I had reassured myself that I was not in the middle of earthquake, I saw that it had come free from its one long hinge (a piano hinge?).

Amazingly there was no real damage and as the lock is still intact I think I could fix it myself. I only moved into this house a year ago and am surprised it has stayed up this long as the 8 screws in the hinge were very short. I would like to fill the holes where the old screws were and put it back up with 2 hinges and longer screws.

Can anyone please advise me what would be the best kind of filler for the job as there are so many different products around that I am stuck? I won't need a big tub as it is only a narrow edge but it needs to be strong enough to put screws into.

If you're looking for strength, this is a 2-pack (filler plus hardener).......

You don't get much strength in chipboard. I would suggest drilling out (enlarging) the holes in your new hinges, and fitting them with M6 bolts.....

Put the nut on the inside where it won't show.

You're welcome, Al. I've just checked, and they have M5 bolts as well, if you think the 6mm ones are a bit over the top :o)
