Sim Card Only Contract.

A friend has a sim card only contract with virgin, and he is considering buying a new phone.

What can he do if his sim card doesn't fit his new phone?

Will he have to create a new contract with virgin, and if so will he be able to keep his number?

Most companies will supply new SIM cards for free in such cases, for instance I had an iPhone4 on O2, bought a secondhand iPhone 5S which uses a smaller SIM, walked into an O2 shop, they supplied a new SIM for free and arranged the switch over, basically you use the old phone until it stops working and then switch the new one on, number stays the same.

If the sim card is too big, you can buy a sim card cutter to cut it down .... or if the sim card is too small, you can buy an adapter to make it bigger.

If you take a new contract out, with your existing provider, you can't keep your number - you can only keep your number if you swap networks. I know it sounds daft, but that's how it was, the last I heard.
If you swap providers, you get a PAC (porting authorisation code) code from your existing provider and give it to your new provider and your number will be swapped over.

Thank you for your answers, especially Gizmonster, I looked up these cutters and they are very cheap and come with adaptors so the trimmed card can be brought back to the size it was.
