Water Continues To Flow In The Toilet Cistern

After flushing the toilet the cistern fills up but instead of the water stopping when its full it continues to flow and overflows into the toilet. Is there a way my husband can fix this or do we need a plumber,Thank you in advance

However - firstly in both instances it's simple to alter the inflow, and secondly if you can't follow any of the tutoring links given then rest assured it is a tiny little job for a handy person.

thank you all so much for your helpful replies and yes I should have been more specific regarding the model no. and age . My husband found the instructions and it is the univalve that has the problem. Unfortunately he doesn't feel confident enough to understand how to repair it. Well at least we are keeping our plumber in work. Once again thanks for trying to help
