I hemmed a pair of trousers using an adhesive hemming tape which you iron over to produce a really strong bond. Unfortunately I now need to take the hem down and can't take the tape off. Any ideas?

That tape is made of a plastic that melts with the heat from the iron to bond the fabric , it is intended to be permanent. Try ironing it again and pulling it off while it is hot, not sure it will work though.

('Acetone' = nail varnish remover)
^^^ many modern nail varnish removers are not/do not contain any acetone.

Thanks for your answers everyone. I was being lazy as I normally stitch hems. I wouldn't use this product again though it's horrendous and very unforgiving if you accidentally iron a crease in. Buenchico, you are the font of all knowledge!
