No Sound When Playing Youtube Or Radio Player In Windows 7

My friend has a computer running Windows 7, and it is refusing to play sounds or music. He usually uses Mozilla Firefox, and at the moment he is trying to play a radio player programme. In Firefox, the Youtube file will not load (i.e. run in a new window), but it will "load" in Internet Explorer, but no sounds, the timer runs but no sound. His connections are all correct, the "mute" button is not clicked, speaker volume and control panel speaker settings are all fine.... so what now. I think it's a conflict between Adobe Flash player and his computer software, but how do we resolve this? All (simple) fixes appreciated, please.

Does the computer produce sound when an MP3 file or CD is played? If not, the sound driver probably needs to be reinstalled.

If your friend thinks that it might be a Flash Player problem though, advise him to uninstall 'Adobe Flash Player Plug-in' (or 'Adobe Flash Player 20', or however else it's listed), RESTART THE COMPUTER (that's IMPORTANT!!!) and then reinstall Flash Player from here:

Thank you for that. All is wired up correctly, and it appears this is a recent problem, as youtube worked until recently. I was a bit reluctant to uninstall any software... in case I couldn't "undo" what I had done. Will have a go at sorting this for him during the week. Thanks again.

I had the same problem about eighteen months ago and think it occurred after a Flash Player update. Even removing Flash Player and re-installing the latest version did not cure the problem. Eventually my son fixed it by installing a much older version. Then, on allowing an update, the same fault arose again.
The only sure cure was to remove and re-install the older version and ignore all prompts to allow updates.

You could try to bypass Flash altogether in YouTube to see if that works. In Firefox, go to https://www.youtube.com/html5 and click on the "Request the HTML 5 Player". Or use a Firefox plugin called YouTube AllHTML 5. That's what I use, and it's much better than bothering with the regular random Adobe Flash crashes.
