Scraped Someones Bumper This Morning
10 Answers
on school run. Car was parked with none inside. Slight scrape nothing major. I left a note. Not heard anything yet, but expect to. I have 250 voluntary excess and 150 compulsory, do I have to pay both if it goes through insurance? I am anticipating paying £100 to the driver to have the repairs done, although looking at the scrape, most should come of with polish and just a tennis ball size will need repairing, no dents in it all all. My no claims is protected. I hope the other driver just accepts payment or brings me a quote, I might ask them if I can get my own quote. has this happened to anyone here, and how was it resolved?
Feel so crap now :(. Thanks my darlings x

Sorry to hear you have given money that you can barely afford, but at least you can sleep well tonight knowing you did the right thing. It is also over quickly with no protracted discussion over quotes, so you can put it behind you.

Your 'no claims' may be protected, but your premium will still go up if this goes through your insurance. They will just increase the base premium from which the 'no claims bonus' is deducted. It happened to my daughter, she parked her car correctly in a parking bay and came back to find someone had crashed into it. Their insurance paid but my daughter's policy was double the next year, she asked why and they said it was because she now had a 'claims history' . She had a protected NCB but they just doubled the base premium due to the 'Claims history'.A protected NCB is not worth the paper it's written on.
I got a call at lunch time, he guy was grateful and thanked me for leaving a note. I offered £100 for repairs, as I thought that was beyond reasonable. The car was a small black car 2007 note, the repairs would have been a retouch/respray as no dents. My car has a dent in wheel bumper, but I cant afford to have mine repaired. Anyway, he said it was his sons car and he would see what his son says, tang me back quickly after saying £100 is fine. I dropped it off on school run and asked him to sign a receipt so I have proof I have paid. He said he couldn't believe how honest I was, I could have driven off. I suppose I could have, regardless of witnesses, people do it. I have a conscience and wouldn't sleep at night thinking it will come back to me eventually via another way.
I would not let him take the mick of my generosity/honesty, although I feel maybe I should have offered £80, its done now so I'm happy. No insurance claim means no increased premium. Its a shame this stress occurs when we are insured, the policies are useless for this kind of thing.
thanks for asking my darlings

this is the second bad thing to happen this week, on Saturday polly fell and banged her head, so I was in accident and emergency, where I was told not to worry as she was fine. Her little head was bleeding a little. First little incident with her. She is normally so careful. I cried with worry, I have only ever been to accident and emergency once when my middle child was 4.
then I bumped the car.....
I hope there isn't a third...i will wrap kids in cotton wool, and walk to school lol
