There are no longer any banks in our village and the only Post
Office service is at the local shop via an agency 3 mornings a week.

As it is difficult to get to the nearest branch of my bank could I
deposit money through the Post Office for credit to my account?

Thanks for any advice.

It all depends on your bank and the type of account. Some bank accounts have that facility

It's just a ordinary current account with HSBC.

I just need to cover a few direct debits.
According to this you can deposit cash at the PO

//You can also deposit cheques using a pre-printed HSBC credit slip. This will take one day longer to reach your account than those paid in at HSBC branches, if you pay your cheque in before the Post Office® branch cut-off time. Please ask your Post Office® branch for details of the cut-off time. You will also need to use an HSBC Post Office® cheque deposit envelope which is available from Post Office® branch counters.//

Thanks to you both.
It's a pity that there isn't a publicly owned bank that could ensure there were branches in areas where private commercial banks fail to service the community. Even if it was only open one or two days a week.

Yes...I do it all the time ! It just takes a couple of minutes, and if you look on-line directly afterwards, its there in your bank account.

No "slips" are needed....you just put your bank card into their little machine, give the post office counter clerk the dosh, she presses some buttons, you confirm by pressing the green button on the machine and Bobs your uncle !

Consequently, I only drive into town to use the Bank itself about 3-4 times a year, mainly to put a cheque in.

Bloody marvelous system.
OG... we used to have one of those....it was called Giro Bank, but the bloody Tories did away with it.
