episode one has just been broadcast - the introducer is a gurl of course
and covered the northern canals and their construction
( Leeds Liverpool - Rochdale )
BUT there is another series just rebroadcast
and that was on what they did and what relevance does it have to us ?
That one had a LOT on canals and geology
that is you need the geology to go out and dig a canal and so someone did it... Strata Smith to be exact -and he was the one who used a loaf of buttered bread and put it on a slope as an analogy ( in 1790)
and I think we had a bit on Lyell and uniformitarianism - the same forces that formed the strata are with us now - which sounded the death knell of the creation of the world by God fiftyyears before Darwin. Lyell was a vicar by the way....
so yeah there are some good progz around
