Fake Or Real Batteries....
11 Answers
I think we all use battery's for some household purpose or another, and they can be expensive, but how can some sellers on Amazon & Ebay sell so cheap, including free postage?
I can buy 8 Duracell AAA, or AA for £2.90, but are they genuine?

Some eBay traders might have purchased 'bankrupt stock' of legitimate Duracell batteries. Others might have purchased short-dated stock (because batteries do come with 'use by' dates). However many will be selling fakes. Simply put 'fake duracell' into Google to see what I mean! Here's the first, of many, links that come up:...

I'm losing faith with rechargables. They seem to lose their charge whilst waiting to be used. Plus they don't seem to last as long in use. Maybe it's the brand. I bought some eneloop ones a little while back, but not long enough to judge if they are more impressive than others.
I have no idea how one can tell if your Duracells are genuine. Caveat emptor I suppose.

However I've found that the alkaline batteries from pound shops (and similar 'discount stores') are usually every bit as good as Duracell anyway. (NB: That ONLY applies to alkaline batteries. The zinc chloride batteries from pound shops are usually total rubbish!).
For example, give these a try:

Next time you're out shopping take a close look at the Duracell batteries on sale. There are more than one type. They include Ultra Power, Plus Power and Simply Duracell. They also have Industrial and Duracell Procell types and a whole host of other types, all of which are available in AA, AAA, D Cell, C Cell and other shapes and sizes.
In university we use either the Industrial or Procell grades, Why? Well because these two types are the premium versions and contain the most charge. Hospitals use them too for such things as 24 hour heart monitoring devices where battery failure could be disastrous.
Cheap Duracell batteries in shops are usually the "Simply Duracell" type. These contain the least charge and will need replacement in a very short time in equipment that contains a motor etc. They will last longer in LED Torches etc.
With Duracell you get what you pay for. The Simply Duracell range came out simply because people were unwilling to pay premium prices for the original, expensive Duracell versions when Zinc-Carbon batteries were relatively cheap.
Cheap Duracell batteries on the web might not all be fake; they might be the "Simply Duracell" type that are hugely discounted from some wholesale suppliers.
