Help please , any ideas on how to reduce sound levels on wall clock (mechanical) please ? It seems a waste to turn them off , which we do at night, as they are very pleasant , but just too loud .Even interrupt football on television ! Live in a bungalow so limited on placement of clock .

stick a plaster between the hammer and the bells .
Get some felt, craft places sell it, and cut it up to fit the hammer, makes a big difference to the noise. Or even a bit of thick rubber band.
If the clock is at all valuable, don’t do either of those things.
I would never advocate sticking anything to the hammer with glue but if you can attach something in a temporary fashion to it then it does the trick.
I have a beautiful clock inherited from my grandparents which bongs every quarter hour and then on the hour. It came to me with bits of felt attached to the hammer and we've added more, just tied it on with cotton.
It really muffles the sound but we can still hear it. It has a soul, my clock, I'd never do anything to hurt it :)
