For many years I have been plagued by unsolicited telephone calls even though I registered with TPS. The calls have been received from 7.00 a.m. through to late evening.

This week I decided enough was enough and bought a new system from BT with Call Guardian blocking.

It is absolutely brilliant. I have not received a single call from anybody since I brought the system home ;) I had all the phones on charge for 48 hours and have connected the BT line today.

I never have yearned for a call centre call before! Time will tell if it is a good buy.

Hopefully Mr.Patel and his, 'I'm calling from Microsoft Help Desk, your computer is running slow', are consigned to the dustbin of history.

Definitely the best buy I ever made. I occasionally ring my landline from my mobile just to make sure it's working. Haven't had a call in over a fortnight. Bliss!

I did the very same thing, jack. It is working just fine.
It is a good buy. We have had one for a few months now and the difference is remarkable. When the phone rings, it's for one of us.
The thing is, they are rather complicated so you have to be careful. I have blocked all international and unavailable numbers. I also block individual numbers on an ad hoc basis as they come in. I do not block withheld numbers are some are genuine. Nor do I block unknown numbers, otherwise someone who is not in your 'phone book' cannot get through. There are other ways of dealing with such calls though. You can send to Announce or straight to answerphone. I've had mine for eight months and I'm still working my way through the manual!
I have not received a single call from anybody

you mean that literally? If so, either all your friends have died or perhaps BT are overdoing it.
jno, the customer programmes the phone and BT act on the instructions.

jno, I have been to 4 funerals this year.
BT's new 1572 Call Protect system does the same thing as Call Guardian - and it's FREE to BT customers:

I have read about that, Chico, but it wasn't available when I bought my kit. Still, I'm more than happy, best £46 I ever spent.
Now you tell me, Chris!
It's very new, Tilly. Wasn't out last July when I bought my phone.

The quad system means I can enjoy having a phone in 4 main rooms, I don't move around as quickly as once I did. I am more than pleased with the purchase.

jack, I have studied the manual - might even be able to get back to my normal bedtime reading tonight :)

Either. I got mine from Amazon, it was on special at the time.

jordy, Robert Dyas have an offer on the phone plus 15% discount from tomorrow for 4 days only. Check to see if they have the same offer in your area.
Just to point out other call-blocking phones/set-ups are available....BT doesn't have the monopoly on them. Mine is a Panasonic system which works very well.

If you only want a single phone Amazon have them on offer for £43.72. Multiple handsets are also available.

I'd love one of those, it sounds brilliant, I wonder would it work with an Irish landline, I must look into it. My phone number is ex directory yet the beggars seem to get me.
