Fortunately I never have, except when I worked abroad, but if you do, have you any concerns about the safety, where you live, or has the landlords been in contact?

Its seems ridiculous, that hotels and guest houses, big & small, have to have, by law, strict fire safety apparatus, sprinklers, fire blankets, fire alarms, enough fire escapes etc, but tower blocks holding 200/300/400 and more people don't?

I live in a tower block trt. Never had any concerns re: safety. In fact, this last year the council have spent thousands updating the fire safety precautions. (eg, we now have smoke alarms wired directly into the mains electric supply rather than the old battery operated ones)
Ive lived in several high rise flats over the years and NEVER had any concerns.
My friend used to live in a tower block. She was on the 12th floor of 17 floors. I used to be so amazed at the block swaying in the wind.
Apart from a gorgeous view across East London, I did not envy her as the lifts often broke down.
When does a tower block become a high rise tower block? Is it when there are more floors than the fire brigade can reach?
mates used to live on 16th floor (out of how many I don't know)
Unfortunately, one evening they saw something pass their living room window , turns out to be a poor soul who had leapt. Tragic.
My Daughter lived on the 9th floor of one for a while, the security, maintenance and safety were abysmal, the only saving grace was the fabulous views.

Glad when she moved.

I live in low rise, we have issues re fire safety measures too but fortunately not too high up to escape somehow.

It is paramount things must be tightened up in high rise definitely.
What happened is rare.

There are high rises all over the world.
I don't live in a flat, but I read today that it's thought several thousand tower blocks have the same type of cladding. Some urgent work required!!
The cladding manufacturer says the cladding used was not for high rise but low level use, because it is flammable. They sell a non flammable version but that is £26 sq/m instead of £24 sq/m for the inflammable stuff. So the dangerous stuff was used to save a couple of thousand quid.
* £24 sq/m for the FLAMMABLE stuff.
Same price as the inflammable stuff.
OG, inflammable/flammable - the same thing.
:-)
Precisely.
Aunts hrise has sprinklers in walkways and fire extinguishers outside every flat. Aunt has smaller FExt in her kitchen. If an arsonist blows up his freezer below she's had it coz she cant move fast.
Oh ... it was a joke! Sorry.
Pulling Gromit's leg.
:o)
I used to many many years ago, loved it, felt very safe. There's a great sense of community, well there used to be.

When I was a kid, I thought that the people who lived in blocks of flats were posh & rich, and wished I lived in one!
I was reading a response on another forum by someone who lived in a high-rise in, I think, Hong Kong (it also had only one staircase). It was a mix of rich and poor people; the rich people got the highest flats with the best views, a bit like in the film High Rise. Anyway, the writer, who is not rich, was coming to realise that the lower floors were best, the people in the top floors were at much greater risk from this kind of disaster.
i live in small block, that like the Grenfell tower has been cladded, and now we have outside gas pipework to boot, not a cheery subject to think on.
