When I empty my dishwasher, I find that quite often, around one third needs to be washed again - bits of food (ugh) sticking to plates, spoons, etc. I usually use a very hot wash. Do I need to rinse absolutely everything before putting in the dishwasher? It seems to defeat the object, I may as well wash them by hand !! :)

mine does this sometimes, i usually rinse the plates before i put them in to stop the bottom of the machine getting clogged up. have you got enough rinse aid in? or maybe the machine needs  clearing out at the bottom, i sometimes buy those finish cleaning things that you put in the machine once in a while, don't do it by hand it's a thankless task!!!

Try cleaning the spray arms under the tap, if they are blocked (sometimes it's bits of pasta in mine) they spray dirtier water on the final rinse.

Thanks everyone, I think I am expecting the dishwasher to even clean itself for me ... I will use a dishwasher cleaner and clean inside it a bit more often! Thanks again x
once a fortnight I put detergent in mine on a hot wash, but empty. This seems to keep it clean.

Do you mean detergent for the washing machine?
You probably need the salt changed in the dishwasher
no, just the dishwash detergent, on a full cycle, but empty

Thanks again everyone xx
too many plates cutlery etc in a washer can stop it washing correctly, also things touching each other try keeping things apart and not putting in too much see if that works.
