Epson Stylus Photo Printer

I have the above printer which has four colour cartridges.I raised a similar query to this many moons ago but can't find it now.When one of the cartridges is shown as low or empty,even after replacing it with a new one'it's always a problem to
get the printer printing again.Is there a way of tinkering with the "printed circuit" on the cartridge that could overcome this? Or some other solution.Thanks.
