Sabbatical Leave

My daughters husband has a terminal illness meaning she has had to be signed off from work for a few months over the past year. Her firm have been very understanding but as she has no idea how much more time she needs off they have suggested Sabbatical leave for 6 months. This is of course unpaid and I was wondering if she can continue to claim SSP and if so, from whom, her firm or DHSS
