I want to go to Oxford or Cambridge, i did very well at GCSE and i am on course for at least 3 As at A level, but in general studies i didnt take the critical thinking course i took an ICT course instead, which im starting to rue now because it sounds like i have to have done critical thinking for oxbridge. is this true or not? if so what can i do to make amends? also can someone explain to me all about ciritical thinking with regard to university? for example, is there a critical thinking exam in order to get into oxbridge? how does this work? i intend to study psychology at uni if that helps at all. please someone, i'm really at a loss to do with my life.

I don't know anything about the critical thinking thing I'm afraid. I just wondered if you have any other universities lined up?. I know a few people who had straight A's in all their GCSEs and A-levels (one had 5 A-levels!) & still didn't got in so don't lay all your hopes on Oxbridge without having a back-up plan.

well obviously i'll have to consider some other uni's aswell as oxbridge but thats what i'm interested in, seeing as they're the two uni's in which critical thinking is aimed at. Also there's seems to be almost no-one in my school interested in doing psychology at uni.
i'm not trying to be rude but i'm not sure if oxbridge will accept general studies as a suitable A level subject. There are many uni's that don't like it

no general studies as an extra AS, im doing 4 other plus gen studies.
Can't you ask somebody at school/college? Or is there anything about it on either of the universities websites, if they have one?

yeh i suppose I really should go and speak to a teacher, i just would just prefer to not to have to do that because i feel its my fault i'm not understanding why critical thinking is important. also i was on h/t and so there was no teacher to talk to.

but yeh i'll try and check out the uni websites, i didnt think of that... thanks.

don't take this the wrong way, but why are you fixated on oxbridge?

the brightest chap i know got turned down for one or the other of them, while the tossiest schlup i went to school with got in. do you have some sort of illusion that you will receive the "finest education" at such an establishment? or is it just snobbery? or is it purely because you think you'll get preferential treatment in the job market/social circles if you've attended an oxbridge uni?

do tell.

one way or another, you need to re-evaluate your values...
