Traffic Signs In Welsh

I travel to Haverfordwest two or three times a year to visit relatives, and when you go over the Severn Bridge the signs are in English first with Welsh below - this continues until about Port Talbot(ish) when Welsh becomes the top language with English below.

Is there a reason for this?

Once you get past Port Talbot the people tend to be a bit simple, don't know if that's connected to it.

Spicey....not all West Walians have Welsh as their first language....north of the Lansker perhaps, but the majority of people in Pembrokeshire live south of the line, north of it.

you are looking at 20% speakers at all - in high proprotion areas

My complaint about road signs in Wales is that when the Welsh is at the top you have passed the sign before you can read the English! By the way only a small percentage of North Walians speak Welsh.

There was a similar one about the same time. Can't remember the exact words but it was warning cyclists to dismount on a very uneven road to avoid tyre damage. The Welsh version translated something along the lines of 'Get off your bike or your bladder will burst'.

By the way, Y and W are vowels in Welsh.
