Can anyone tell me if these fans are expensive to run, also would it be compatible to use in a touring caravan on a campsite.

1800 watt is aprox 2000 watt check what your charged per kilowatt an hour (ie somewhere around 12p) it varies , then that would be 24P per hour to run if its set to be on full heat.
There are very few touring campsites which charge for electricity by usage ie, they charge a daily rate with no metering. The problem you might come across is the total power consumption at a given time, which won't be more than around 3KW and can be as low as 1KW. We have a 2KW heater for our very small caravan but only ever use it on 1KW setting.
