Back again. Top of the crossword positively flew in. Then I ground to a halt in the bottom right. I brute-forced a few answers in that seemed right. One remaining clue which has me puzzled, and a few unsatisfactory parsings.
14d Passionate, a miss with nice pants (9)
I have M_S_I_R_C which I can't even find a word to fit. Perhaps I got one of the letters wrong.
Then there are a few unsatisfactory parsings:
25 One on the table, perhaps in the middle? (8) I have HYDROGEN, but other than the Periodic Table reference I can't see why
27 Black coat on the counter, top edge a kind of blue? (9) I have CAMBRIDGE. I see the RIDGE and 'blue' but can't parse the first bit.
19 Wearing whites, one pulls hard (6) I have HOICKS, but there only seems to be one part to the clue. Can't see the wordplay.
23 Bird in 24, bees every second buzzing off (5) GREBE I think. BE from bees perhaps, but then ... ? 24 is ROSE speaking of which ...
26, 24 In which gorgeous trailer in red and 22 across hybridised? (4,6) ROSE MADDER is what I put in. 22 ac was ORANGE. Don't get the wordplay. If this is wrong it will probably explain why I can't get the Passionate clue.
Slapping my forehead about the H in perHaps. OK, I'll give him that one. And counter/accountant yep, missed that one completely.
Still not happy about the cricket clue. Seems to only have one part still, and cryptic clues should have two ... anyway, I can go and make lunch now, for its that kind of time in my part of the world. Thanks all.
I'm not sure if the answer to 19ac is Hoicks, or Haicks. The former could mean "pulls hard" in cricket, the latter means "an outer garment consisting of a large piece of white cloth; worn by men and women in northern Africa". Whites is also cricket clothing of course.
