Most of you will know I've been banging on about the M60 car park for some time now. 17 miles of road works that should have been finished in July 2017 but still ongoing and I still can't see what they are supposed to have done. For most of the 17 miles, it's 4 lanes but is monitored by only 3 cameras. How can they monitor 4 lanes with three cameras? Have you been caught by them (M60, that is) or do you know anyone that has? Is it just kidology?

Why don't you test them out; let us know your verdict ?

That is the mindset they want you to adopt, OG. Do they, don't they? I read somewhere that if you constantly change lanes between each set of cameras, they can't monitor you. Is it true?

I suspect an urban myth. Why can't multiple lanes be viewed by a single camera, the car reg and time noted and data fed back to a common database/processing unit ?
You only really need 2 sets of cameras for average speed measurement (one at the start and one at the end), each set covers all lanes for NPR purposes. Extra sets cover entry/exit points or confirmation purposes.

If it's not finished yet, how do you know it will only be three cameras ?
However they never opted to inconvenience drivers over miles of continuous motorway at a time until they had this tech. Now they don't give a darn.

Well, OG, the fact that you can see three yellow cameras on a yellow gantry, is a big clue, but I may be wrong.

Redundancy ?
keep to proper speed...no issues..but yes they do work !
Oh, I misunderstood what you meant by 3 cameras. The bank of three you mention cover all lanes as already explained, but each one covers the others for contingency reasons. Only when the bank is down to providing one reading is it necessary to effect disruptive repairs.

Which, like your precious little self, spath, i always do. I just wondered why only three cameras to monitor four lanes.
clarion..wide angle ?

You wouldn’t be able to go faster than the 50, or whatever the limit is anyway. You’ll get some lune doing 45 ect in the outside middle lane, keeping pace with the trucks in the slow lane.
on a journey from London to Manchester, the driver will encounter more than 80 miles of roadworks, or which 77 miles is "smart motorway" upgrades (in 4 sections of 13, 18, 22 and 24 miles). on a day when traffic conditions are good, this will add just over 30mn to your journey. on a bad day, who knows? 3 of these worksites are planned to be in place until 2022; the 4th is supposed to be finished next year, but the gantries aren't even up yet, and the emergency lay-bys are yet to be completed. nightmare.
