Uk Price Of Petrol Compared With Us Price
I have just been talking to a friend in San Francisco and have been informed that the price of a US gallon of petrol is $3.20. (£2.52 using the exchange rate of £1 = $1.27)
Bearing in mind that there are 1.2 Imperial gallons to a US gallon and that there are 4.55 litres to an Imperial gallon, would you please check my calculations of the price of a UK gallon of petrol in US Dollars.
For the sake of comparison I am using the UK petrol price of 150p per litre.
A. 150p per litre is 150 x 4.55 = 682.5p per Imperial gallon.
B. 682.5p per Imperial gallon x 1.2 = 819p per US gallon.
C. £8.19 x 1.27 =$10.40 per US gallon.
D. I would greatly appreciate it if you would confirm that my
method of calculating the difference of
the price of petrol between the UK and USA is correct. I have used a calculator for the arithmetic. Thank you.
No wonder that they can drive around in cars with 5 litre engines!
But, what is the point of having all that power when they have a speed limit of 60MPH on their motorways.

The problem is that , being 86 years old and being housebound with severe walking difficulties and not having driven a car for 20 years, I am completely out of touch with petrol prices.
I tried hard to find out petrol prices on the Internet at 7AM this morning without success so I resorted to phoning a couple of local petrol stations.
I asked for the price of a litre of petrol and was told
150p.
Unthinkingly, I then went ahead with the erroneous calculations.
Renewed for your helpful corrections.

I see it says the average price for unleaded is 130.4p, which is about right for my area. Supermarket petrol tends to be cheapest.
