Ive asked/posted before about weird and recurring dreams. I used to (and still do occasionally) have dreams of been shot in the back. However, Ive started to have dreams of being bitten by snakes and more recently dreams of having to drink deadly poisons (usually as a result of a death sentence passed upon me).

Sleep should be a time of rest and recuperation, so why are we plagued by nightmares?
What is the purpose of nightmares like these? Getting anxious to go asleep nowadays.

Not bothered about dream interpretation (pseudoscience at best) but why the hell are we plagued by these visions when our bodies should be resting?

Any ideas appreciated?

Dreams are the result of your subconscious trying to sort out issues you have in your daily life. I'm sure Jung and Freud could argue you into the ground with your description of dream analysis ( not interpretation) as a pseudoscience. Dream analysis is used in main stream Psychology today. You have two very major Dream signals going on , but as you're not interested I'll keep them to myself ;-)
When we dream our brain is processing information but may use strange imagery to try to make sense of things. The strength of the imagery ad it's effect seem to relate to the depth of the issue, or the strength of the emotions around it. Repeating dreams may be our brains way of telling us there is something we really need to deal with. I have found addressing the issue usually stops the dream
I don't know if this is weird or not .

But every now and then i have a dream where i go to the loo somewhere, for a pee ( not in my house ) - but the loos are filthy ;and i'm going from one loo to the other in the building trying to find a clean one .

Then i wake up , bursting for a pee
Baz - If those loos weren't filthy you'd probably wet the bed :-)

Nah, you've piqued my curiosity now ;-) pray tell...

//I have found addressing the issue usually stops the dream//
But how the hell are we supposed to know the issue when its all wrapped up in symbolism and dreams and stuff??

I don't know about that .
Sometimes i have dreams , which are so weird , that i wake up thinking - what the dickens was all that about .
I can't relate it to any current issues .

Baz, I have that all the time. But usually end up waking up just in time to reach the loo. (had occasionally not made it...)
ummmm

yes - lol
Baz..I have those dreams too..it means..wake up wummin you need a wee !!
I have two recurring dreams.
One is I'm dead in bed, but able to see everything still just not speak or move and my partner wakes up and leans up on his elbow and is peering at me and shaking me and then realises I'm dead.
I usually wake up unable to breath with that one and utterly terrified.
The other is I'm on top of his building in NY and it's a bright lovely sunny day. He takes me by the hand and he's walking backwards smiling, leading me somewhere. When we get to the edge he embraces me and I think he's going to kiss me and he sort of turns me and leans back so our arms are out straight. Then he smiles at me and lets go of my hands and the retaining wall is no long there and I fall backwards, and I can see him as I fall just standing on the edge impassively.
Both of those I have had a lot lately and they are absolutely terrifying. I think it's your mind playing out horrible scenarios for you, your worst fears etc. I've tried lucid dreaming which helps, but still getting them fairly regularly.

Strange that minters, I NEVER think that females have those dreams as well.

Kval, do you have sleep paralysis?
My son has that a lot and it freaks him out.
lol Nailit...I wee for Scotland every night !!

Kva...I can understand your dreams....;0) xx
Yeah, well since you know him, I thought you might Minty- they certainly make sense to me :) x
I've had the wee dream loads of times. Once I was in a nightclub and the cubicles were made of glass. Everytime I was just about to wee someone would walk in. This happened quite a few times before my brain actually woke me up.
dreams are a way of collating life events..a bit jumbled...mixed in with associated emotions...and a weak bladder for some of us ! lol

Im just curious as to why, when sleep is supposed to be recuperating and restful, its full off nightmares and stuff?
Probably should have have posted this in science...

Still interesting to hear from others though!
Nailit.....my "sleeping" is so crazy I now record it on Pillow.....
I talk.....I sing....but worst of all, for other folk, is that I scream....loudly.

This happened last night at about 2am....not a problem when I'm alone in my detached house.....but scared the living daylights out of Dave and the couple in the next room.... :-)
1. Why do you feel you deserve to be punished
2. Why are you having trust issues
Usually if you look at the image in the cold light of day you can make sense of it by tapping into the feelings it evokes.

I have packing dreams, usually in strange hotels where I have far too much to pack for the bags and time available. The people around me just ignore what is going on. Just means I am taking on too much and need to put some things on hold.
Have the wee dream too usually just can't find a private loo, doors disappear, or there are banks of toilets but none of them are suitable. I have learned to wake up sharpish with those.
I get bad dreams only when I take certain medication. I wonder if that applies to anyone else here?
