My Microwave Has Just Died

I pressed the button to open the door and there was a noise and then it started up on its own with nothing on the timer - it's not supposed to do that.

I couldn't get it to stop and had to pull the plug on it.

I think that the door mechanism is broken - can that be fixed? I have a feeling that it would not be cost effective.

I will have to buy another one and I rather like this one https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7022232 - would I have to worry about what surface type this should go on? I sometimes have mine on top of the freezer and sometimes on an old wooden unit.

I had to use something called a pot/pan to heat up my lunch. :-(

You havent said how long you have had it or how much use it has had but they are not made to last these days and if its quite old you will notice a vast difference in its efficiency when you buy a new one.
I'm really sorry for your loss :(
......... plus you will know its safer.!
Pot/pan? I'm sure you can get counselling on the NHS for that.
I trust Argos, but i have never heard of that brand. When it comes to electrical appliances i like to go with brands i'm familiar with
A little history for you then Spath.

De'Longhi is a good make spath.

The microwave is a few years old - maybe 5 and was cheap to buy Phillips I think.

I use it daily for most of my main meals. Perhaps not so often since I bought my air-fryer.

I have a couple of pots/pans but they need to be watched when heating stuff up and I am very easily distracted and wander off. I managed to melt the handle off one relatively recently.

Decisions, decisions ...
I wouldn’t spend £150 on a microwave. I don’t see the point of the various auto-cook options. Does anyone ever use any of them? Don’t you just need heat, defrost and a timer?
I’d get a cheap one from a supermarket.
the same thing happened to me Wolf a few weeks ago - after I opened and closed the door it kept going on round - then I smelt smoke - I quickly pulled out the plug and got rid.

I bought a wee greaty - back to basics - manual - love it and quite quick at 800w. Just looked at your link and you are looking at a combi - I bought one of those years ago and I only used the microwave bit.

Mine cost around £65.
this is the link for mine Wolf - from Argos

Absolutely. Ours was about £70 from Amazon. Perfect.

We had a £200+ one once - it grilled, roasted, the lot. Only used it for reheating takeaways...
Mine was £35 from Asda and does everything I need. Not worth mending a door imo. Also, shouldn't be a problem what surface you stand it on.
The machine that OP has linked to is a combination microwave which explains the price. We bought one months ago ( a Which? Best buy Panasonic) and use the grill and convection oven as much as the microwave part....in fact, our full-size oven is hardly used now.

gingejbee is right, the microwave in my original post was a combi and that was why I was worried about putting it on top of the freezer.

Anyway - Asda is visiting tomorrow with my cat litter and other feline stuff. Now they will be bringing me -

If nothing else it looks pretty. Only 700w but I should adapt to that. Heres hoping that it is in stock.

Thanks all
