When Did This Web Site Start Using Avatars?

I seem to remember when I first joined, there were no avatars. Your screen name was next to whatever you'd posted/replied. If you were a new member, your name would appear on the site in green letters for a few weeks, then change to black. Who remembers a user called Diesel? Caused absolute ructions on here. Happy days!

Think he came from Ireland - can't remember whether it was north or south of the backstop:-) I do however recall him being quite rude to me when i first began posting. Soon learned to give as good as i got though.
