It went on to say I solved the puzzle but had to swop some pieces round (as I knew some had come off, but didn’t know which ones!) so it’s in a solved state, gets jumbled, managed to solve except for one edge piece.. is this because it was taken apart and not in original state although it looked as though but was? And how would you know how to put it back together so it was solvable! Sorry.. I even proof read my op..
Whatwhat, I’ve got a book that gives the solutions. I’ll have a look later and see if there is one for //one edge piece// wrong.
(As an aside, my sister used to take the stickers off and put them back on to get the finished cube. For ages we thought she was very clever, but - strangely! - she could never solve it in front of anyone.)

An algorithm is a set of steps to follow in order to solve a problem or a process.
If you have a puzzle, let's call specific moves A,B and C. If it looks a certain way, you may need to do A,B and C to make it look another particular way.
If it is slightly different, you may need to do A,A,B,C to get it to look the way you want.
