Fluid Master Toilet Cistern Dual Flush

I've just bought one of these but can't figure out how to connect it to the flush pipe. The existing pipe is 1.5inch, the same as the valve outlet so can't connect. I've just bought a different flush pipe, which seems to be a standard size, and this is smaller than the valve outlet so rattles around inside. I think I'm missing something really simple but appreciate any help to get it all connected.

What have you bought...

Whole cistern?
Just the internal flush valve?

It's just the internal flush valve, basically, how is it supposed to connect to the flush pipe?

Do you mean for a separate cistern & bowl?
As opposed to a close-coupled?

That sounds right, so the current set up is cistern, then pipe coming out of the bottom and into the back of the toilet

If you're trying to connect a 1½" pipe to a 1½" outlet, why can't you just use a 1½" connector?

Sounds like you need a 1.5 inc to 1.5 inch internal connector. Are you sure that it is not1.25inch to 1.5 inch?

Ahh with that type, the flush pipe usually screws onto a spigot sticking down from the cistern (with an outer back-nut)

It sounds as though you might have a flushvalve designed for the modern close- coupled.
They don't connect, the spigot just sits on the big hole in the top of the pan, with a rubber "doughnut to support it)

Yeah I think that would explain the problem!! The valve outlet is threaded so I don't think a connector will work. Can you suggest a valve type that will work for my type of system? But, perhaps the one you have might still be ok.
To answer your original question, the downpipe slides up inside the syphon.
It's held with a rubber seal (black o-ring) and a plastic backnut.
You must still have these from before you dismantled.

I still have those they are too big for the new valve, the old valve is a lot bigger than the new one.

Gawd knows what you've got there Ck. These things are usually interchangeable.

I checked your link, but I think it's misleading. I really don't think it's the right one. I reckon it's meant for a modern close-coupled.

I would take it back and get the old type as in my ebay link above.
